Trendsetters

Roosters had Mohawks before Mohawks were cool. Now-a-days you see them every where...children, punkrockers, motorcycle helmets.

Piggy Back Ride!

Just making memories as they play in the backyard. Wink. Wink.

That's Not a Yolk, THIS is a Yolk!

This is your yolk.  This is your yolk on good food. (Remember the commercials??)

Can you see the difference in yolks?  The darker one is what happens when you raise happy chickens that eat a well balanced meal. "Happy ice cream comes from happy cows."  Same goes for chickens...except they make eggs...which will go into my homemade ice cream this summer!

Chickens Have Many Functions

Chickens can lay eggs, eat bugs, help your garden, speed up your compost, provide entertainment AND take in stray animals like Mother Theresa.  Below is a picture that my Uncle Jim sent me.

I wonder how much she charges to babysit?

Get a Little...Give a Little

Now that I'm getting eggs I can gift people. My intention was to give Aliene my first half dozen eggs because she is the one who got me to start blogging, but the girls weren't putting out...eggs that is. (don't worry Aliene, I'll deliver!). I was REALLY hoping to have a half dozen before she retired, but only had two. Craig and I tried to think of a funny way to package my two eggs to no avail. TODAY an idea popped in my head. Too little, too late, but it's funny so I shall share it here.

Drum roll please...........
I could have called them IOU Eggs. Get it? You open the carton and only see two eggs because I Owe You four more. Corny, but funny.

Now that they are being a little more consistent I can give people eggs. When I say eggS, I mean about two at a time. My first egg recipient was Randy Conine. He was my English instructor last semester and found my chicken adventure quite entertaining. Today he let me know that his hard boiled egg was delicious! And he was impressed by the yolk color.

Good Job Girls!!

My First

My first egg in
My first yard at
My first house from
My first flock of chickens.

It's always exciting to find an egg.

Christmas in February

I GOT A GREEN EGG!!! It's not quite a neat as if I'd gotten it on Christmas morning, but beggars can't be choosers. I believe the first one was from Jane. I guess she's over the loss of Doc and decided she could stop playing hard to get. Now we get about one egg a day. I think Jane and Miss Kitty alternate days. Miss Hattie and Pearl have stopped production...not sure why. They are the ones that laid the eggs first...early retirement??
